Bedspreads are sold in three sizes and hope for the best. The result is familiar — too short at the sides, dragging at the foot, or bunching where it should fall cleanly.
We make throw-over bedspreads, coverlets and fitted bedspreads to your bed’s actual measurements: its width and length, the height of the base, how far you want the drop to fall, and whether it needs to clear a footboard. A fitted spread is tailored to the frame with defined corners and a precise drop; a throw-over falls softly at the sides. Either way it sits properly because it was cut to sit properly.

Much of what is sold as a bedspread is a quilted, wadded thing designed for a colder climate. In Perth it spends most of the year folded on a chair.
A lightweight coverlet or throw-over bedspread works differently. It dresses the bed properly through summer without adding warmth you do not want, and it layers over a quilt or blanket through the cooler months. One piece, useful all year.
It also drapes better. Without wadding, a good linen or cotton falls in soft folds at the sides rather than standing away from the bed — which is usually what people are after when they picture a bed that looks finished.

Because a coverlet stops at the base rather than falling to the floor, it often pairs with a bed valance — the gathered skirt that conceals the base and frame. Annie makes these to measure in the same fabric as the bedspread or a complementary one, and will tell you at the consultation whether your bed actually needs one.
One thing to mention: we don’t offer decorative stitched patterns — the quilted squares, diamonds or channels sewn across the face of some bedspreads. Our specialist for that work has closed and we haven’t found a replacement we’d vouch for. Everything else is available, including fitted spreads with tailored corners.
This is the request we see most, and it is where making to measure earns its keep.
When the bedspread, the curtains and the bedhead come from the same fabric range, a bedroom reads as considered rather than assembled. That is difficult to achieve shopping separately — colours that match on screen rarely match in the room, and dye lots vary between suppliers and between seasons.
Making everything in one commission removes the problem. We work from the same bolt, in the same light, with the same lining decisions carried across. Annie can plan the whole room at a single consultation — curtains or a Roman blind at the window, a bedhead, and the bedspread to draw them together.
If you are already planning curtains for a bedroom, it is worth raising the bedspread at the same time.
Because we make in-house and are not tied to one supplier, the fabric range is wide. We make bedspreads in quilting-weight fabrics, but not decorative stitched patterns across the face — squares, diamonds and similar. Our specialist for that work has closed. If a stitched pattern is essential, we’d rather say so now.
Mostly weight and drop. A traditional bedspread is heavier and falls closer to the floor; a coverlet is lighter and typically stops around the base of the bed. We make both, and the distinction matters less than getting the drop right for your particular bed.
Any. That is the point of making to measure, and it matters most on beds with unusual depths, adjustable bases or a footboard.
Allow around four weeks from fabric selection. If the bedspread is part of a larger commission with curtains, we schedule it alongside so everything arrives together.
Often yes, if we can identify the fabric or you can provide an offcut. If the range has been discontinued we will either find the closest available match or suggest a deliberate complementary fabric — a near-miss is more noticeable than an intentional contrast.
Yes, there is no minimum. Most clients come to us for a room rather than a single item, but we are happy to make one piece.
