Hay Interiors has been part of the Perth furnishings landscape for more than fifty-five years. Founded in 1969 by Kevin and Patricia Hay, the business began making loose covers, expanded into upholstery, and grew from there into custom curtains, blinds, pelmets and window dressings. In 2007 Annie purchased the business from the Hays, bringing her own deep expertise in traditional curtain making while honouring the reputation for quality and personal service it had already built.
Annie was born in Tehran, where she learned to sew from a young age in her mother’s dressmaking business. In 1999 she moved to England, and in Southampton she trained and worked as a curtain maker for four years, mastering the precise techniques of bespoke, made-to-measure curtains and blinds — including the traditional skills required for heritage and historic properties.
In 2004 she moved to Perth with her family. After contracting her skills to several local curtain businesses and working closely with interior designers, she purchased Hay Interiors in 2007. Since then she has continued to refine her craft, adapting the techniques she learned in England to Australian homes, light and architecture while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship. Annie is a Member of the Design Institute of Australia, Australia’s peak body for design professionals.
Today Hay Interiors operates from a purpose-designed space in Nedlands where showroom and workroom sit side by side. Clients browse beautiful curtain fabrics in natural light, discuss options with Annie, and often see curtains and blinds being cut, sewn and finished just metres away. That transparency and connection to the making is something clients consistently tell us they value. We serve homes across Perth — from Peppermint Grove and Cottesloe to Dalkeith, Subiaco, Mount Lawley and beyond — and undertake special projects for heritage properties.
Throughout its history Hay Interiors has been defined by personal service and attention to detail. Annie has carried that forward while adding her own strengths in consultation, fabric knowledge and traditional technique — a business both established and fresh, rooted in skill and focused entirely on making Perth homes more beautiful and comfortable.
