The classic Mount Hawthorn renovation keeps the character rooms at the front and opens the rear into a light-filled kitchen and living extension — which leaves one home with two opposite window briefs. The front rooms want period-appropriate treatments in keeping with the architecture. The extension wants the opposite: clean lines across wide glazing and sliding doors, where layered sheer curtains and blockout curtains manage northern light and evening privacy, and motorised curtains on quality Acmeda and Somfy systems handle spans too wide to draw by hand. This is where our workroom’s rarer skills come in: London blinds with their softly gathered tails, Austrian blinds, festoon blinds and swags & tails — traditional decorative styles that very few Perth makers still do properly, made by hand to Annie’s English training.
