Home > Curtains & Blinds Perth > Mount Pleasant
Hay Interiors is a long-established Perth curtain maker based in Nedlands. We’ve been making custom curtains for Perth homes since 1969, and Mount Pleasant — with its river-facing homes along The Esplanade, established family streets and the new apartment living rising around Canning Bridge — is a suburb we’re proud to serve, with Annie bringing the consultation to your door.
Curtains and Roman blinds are made by hand in our workroom; roller blinds, cellular blinds and shutters are made to our exact specification by trusted specialists. The person who advises you is the person who oversees the making.
Mount Pleasant runs from the Canning River foreshore up through quiet, established streets of quality brick family homes, with confident rebuilds steadily joining them. River-facing homes want treatments that earn the view: soft sheer curtains that keep the water in sight while screening the room, layered with blockout curtains for bedrooms and evenings. The suburb’s older family homes suit tailored, generous treatments — properly made lined curtains, neat Roman blinds and pelmets that finish a room — while newer builds with wide spans and high glazing are natural candidates for motorised curtains on quality Acmeda and Somfy systems.
Our showroom and workroom are on Stirling Highway in Nedlands — across the Canning from Mount Pleasant, and an easy trip over the freeway or Canning Bridge when you’d like to handle full-width curtain fabrics in person and take samples home to test in your own light. But the working pattern for Mount Pleasant clients is simpler still: Annie comes to you. The consultation happens at your windows, in your light, with samples in hand — and because everything is then made or specified through our own workroom rather than ordered from an interstate catalogue, questions, adjustments and after-care go straight to the people who made your curtains.
One recent Mount Pleasant project captures the suburb’s particular trade-off. A home on The Esplanade enjoys one of the best positions in the suburb — but its master bedroom faces the front, directly onto the foreshore path, and the path fills early: walkers, joggers, dogs and conversation from first light. Our answer was acoustic curtains, made through our exclusive Western Australian acoustic fabric partnership. They reduce perceived sound by up to 10dB — roughly halving what the ear registers — while giving the complete privacy a front-facing bedroom on a busy path needs, and they read as nothing more unusual than beautifully made curtains. The owners keep their address; the morning keeps its distance.
The Canning Bridge precinct has brought a new kind of living to Mount Pleasant’s western edge — apartment towers with big glazing, river and city outlooks, and the freeway and train line as neighbours. Apartments are a genuine speciality of ours: strata coordination, balcony sliders and view-versus-privacy decisions are daily work. Sunscreen roller blinds tame glare while keeping the outlook; double roller blinds pair a sunscreen and a blockout on one bracket for around-the-clock control; and for rooms facing the freeway or rail line, the same acoustic treatments that quietened The Esplanade work just as hard here.
“The whole experience of dealing with Hay Interiors was easy and professional. Our bedroom curtains are practical and look perfect for the position. We have two layers; a light sheer curtain for daytime and blackout curtains for nighttime.” — Jeannie C
