Curtains & Blinds in Como

Custom curtains and blinds for Como’s apartments and family homes
— made by hand in our Nedlands workroom, with consultations in your home.

Looking for Curtains or Blinds in Como?

Hay Interiors is a long-established Perth curtain maker based in Nedlands. We’ve been making custom made curtains for Perth homes since 1969, and Como — apartments along the foreshore, established family streets behind, and a lively mix of long-term locals, young professionals and families in between — is a suburb whose windows span our whole range. Annie brings the consultation to your door.

Curtains and Roman blinds are made by hand in our workroom; roller blinds, cellular blinds and shutters are made to our exact specification by trusted specialists. The person who advises you is the person who oversees the making.

Why Hay Interiors

Curtains for Como's Apartments and Family Homes

Como runs in layers from the water: apartments along the foreshore and Melville Parade with river and city outlooks, then quiet family streets of established homes, renovations and infill development behind. Apartments are a genuine speciality of ours — large glazing, balcony sliders, strata coordination and the daily balance of view, glare and privacy, answered with sheer curtains, blockout curtains and neat roller blinds made to the window. The family homes suit tailored, generous treatments: lined curtains, Roman blinds and pelmets that finish a room properly. Whichever end of the suburb you’re at, the heading sets the tone — S-fold for relaxed contemporary drape, pinch pleat for structure; see our curtain headings & styles page, and Annie will show you at your own windows which suits each room.

Made Across the Narrows

Our showroom and workroom sit together on Stirling Highway in Nedlands — over the Narrows and along the river from Como, but in practice the distance barely features: Annie comes to you, consulting at your windows in your light with samples in hand. Everything is then made or specified through our own workroom rather than ordered from an interstate catalogue, so questions, adjustments and after-care go straight to the people responsible for the result. And when you’d like to browse properly, the showroom and workroom welcomes visitors — handle full-width curtain fabrics and take samples home to test in the rooms they’ll live in.

Taking the Edge off Canning Highway

Como’s western flank lives with Canning Highway, and homes and apartments facing it — or the freeway interchange at its end — know the constant wash of traffic. As the exclusive Western Australian partner of Australia’s leading acoustic fabric supplier, we make acoustic curtains that reduce perceived sound by up to 10dB — roughly halving what the ear registers — while looking like exactly what they are: beautifully made curtains. For a highway-side bedroom or a living room that never quite settles, it’s the single most effective soft-furnishing investment available, and it pairs naturally with motorised curtains on quality Acmeda and Somfy systems for effortless daily use.

Your First Proper Curtains

Como’s mix of apartments and townhouses makes it a suburb of first homes — and first homes usually inherit someone else’s window furnishings, or none at all. Custom-made sounds like a later-in-life indulgence; in practice, made-to-measure treatments in the right fabric outlast several rounds of off-the-shelf replacements, and they’re specified to your actual windows and light rather than the nearest standard size. Double roller blinds are a favourite starting point — sunscreen and blockout on one bracket, view by day and privacy by night — and cellular honeycomb blinds add genuine insulation that shows up on power bills. Annie’s advice at consultation is honest about where to spend and where to save.
