Hay Interiors is a long-established Perth curtain maker based in Nedlands, a short drive from Doubleview. We’ve been making curtains in Perth since 1969, and Doubleview — with its mix of renovated character homes, family houses and newer builds near the coast — is well within our regular service area. Everything we sell, we make or expertly source, and the person who advises you is the person who oversees the making.
A recent Doubleview project shows what a genuine workroom can offer. The client wanted London blinds — a decorative style combining Roman-blind function with soft pleated gathers — and found that very few Perth makers still craft them. We made them by hand in our Nedlands workroom, drawing on Annie’s traditional training in Southampton, England. The result brings a soft, tailored elegance that a standard blind simply can’t match — and it’s exactly the kind of work that separates a maker from a reseller.
London blinds are one of a family of decorative styles we still make properly — alongside Austrian blinds, festoon blinds and swags & tails — that suit character homes and rooms wanting something beyond the ordinary. See our heritage curtains page for more on this speciality.
Being a short drive away matters in practical ways. You can visit our Nedlands showroom and workroom to explore hundreds of fabrics in natural light — and often watch curtains being made while you’re there, which tells you more about our standards than any brochure. Annie can be at your Doubleview home quickly for a consultation, and returning a fabric sample or checking a detail doesn’t mean crossing the city.
It also matters after installation. If anything ever needs adjusting — a track tuned, a hem revisited after floors are changed — we’re an easy drive away. Doubleview clients often tell us that dealing directly with the maker, rather than a sales chain, is what made the difference.
Doubleview’s housing ranges from renovated character homes to contemporary two-storey builds catching coastal light from the west. For character homes, traditional lined curtains, tailored pelmets and period-appropriate headings suit the architecture. For newer homes, soft sheer curtains layered with blockout curtains or roller blinds give flexibility from bright day to private evening — and motorised curtains on quality Acmeda and Somfy systems make large or high windows effortless.
Western light is a real consideration this close to the coast — Annie recommends fabrics with genuine UV and fade resistance so your investment holds its colour and structure. Explore our curtain fabrics library for the ranges she draws on.
Doubleview’s appeal lies in its variety — renovated post-war homes sitting alongside quality new builds, character cottages next to contemporary two-storey houses, and a suburb that’s evolved significantly over the past decade while keeping its relaxed, established feel. That variety means there’s rarely a one-size answer, and it’s exactly where Annie’s consultation approach adds the most value.
Rather than arriving with a predetermined solution, Annie starts by understanding the home — its era, proportions, light and how each room is used. A 1950s brick-and-tile with original windows calls for something quite different from a new build with large glazing and high ceilings.
“Annie created beautiful London blinds for a special room in our home – the service is incredible. Thank you, Annie!” — Alyce, Doubleview

London blinds combine Roman-blind operation with soft decorative gathers, forming gentle pleated swags when raised. Very few Perth makers still craft them — we make them by hand in our Nedlands workroom, and have made them for Doubleview homes.
