City Views, Considered Windows

Curtains & Blinds in South Perth

Custom curtains and blinds for South Perth’s riverside apartments and character streets
— made by hand in our Nedlands workroom, with consultations in your home.

Looking for Curtains or Blinds in South Perth?

Hay Interiors is a long-established Perth curtain maker based in Nedlands. We’ve been making custom made curtains for Perth homes since 1969, and South Perth — from the apartment towers along the foreshore with their postcard city views to the Federation homes on the quieter streets behind — is a suburb whose windows we know well. Annie brings the consultation to your door.

Curtains and Roman blinds are made by hand in our workroom; roller blinds, cellular blinds and shutters are made to our exact specification by trusted specialists. The person who advises you is the person who oversees the making.

Why Hay Interiors

Two South Perths, One Standard of Making

South Perth is really two suburbs in one. Along the foreshore and Mill Point, apartment living with some of the best views in the city — wide glazing, balcony doors, and the daily balance of outlook, glare and privacy. Behind it, the leafy streets around Angelo Street hold Federation and character homes where traditional treatments belong: lined curtains with proper headings, tailored pelmets, and Annie’s heritage curtains expertise for rooms with their original proportions intact. Few makers move comfortably between both worlds; a workroom that has been doing it since 1969 does.

Made Across the Water

From the South Perth foreshore you can almost see our suburb — the workroom sits on Stirling Highway in Nedlands, across Melville Water. In practice the distance barely features: Annie comes to you, consulting at your windows in your light with samples in hand, and everything is then made or specified through our own workroom rather than ordered from an interstate catalogue. If you’d like to browse before or after, the showroom and workroom welcomes visitors — handle full-width curtain fabrics, take samples home, and meet the people who will actually make your curtains. After installation, adjustments and after-care go straight to the maker, not a reseller’s service queue.

One Floorplan, Two Answers — The Golden Apartments

Two recent clients in the Golden Apartments on Darley Street share exactly the same floorplan — and chose completely different treatments, which is rather the point. One wanted a minimal look for the balcony door overlooking the river, and chose motorised cellular honeycomb blinds: crisp, discreet, and operated at the touch of a button. The other went the opposite way, dressing the same opening with generous, luxurious sheers that soften the light and frame the view. Same windows, different lives, both right. And on the strength of that work, the building asked us back to replace the lobby’s outdated sheers — refreshed commercial curtains that now give residents and guests a modern, welcoming arrival.

Dressing the Foreshore's Views

Apartments are a genuine speciality of ours, and South Perth’s are among Perth’s most view-blessed — which makes the window treatment decisions matter more, not less. Sunscreen roller blinds hold the city skyline in sight while cutting glare and UV; double roller blinds add a blockout layer on the same bracket for bedrooms; sheers give daytime privacy without surrendering the outlook; and motorised curtains on quality Acmeda and Somfy systems handle wide spans and balcony doors effortlessly — worth considering from the start, as the honeycomb client on Darley Street did. We work with strata requirements, lift bookings and access windows constantly, so installation in a tower is routine for us rather than an adventure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I keep my city view but control the glare?

Sunscreen roller blinds preserve the view through to the skyline while cutting glare and UV; double roller blinds add a blockout layer for night. Sheers are the softer alternative — Annie will show you both at your own windows.

Constantly — apartments are a speciality, from individual homes to common areas. We recently dressed two apartments and refreshed the lobby sheers in the same Darley Street building, and we handle strata access and scheduling as routine.

Yes — restaurants, cafés, offices and building common areas, alongside larger fit-outs. The Angelo Street and Mends Street precincts are exactly the kind of spaces where beautifully made curtains, and acoustic treatments in busy rooms, earn their keep.
