Plenty of Perth curtain shops use the words custom made. Often it means your measurements are sent to a factory interstate — or overseas — and something arrives weeks later. At Hay Interiors, custom made curtains means exactly what it says: measured at your windows, cut and sewn by hand in our Nedlands workroom, and fitted by the same team. The difference isn’t just what we make — it’s how we make it, and how we work with you.
Most shops order their curtains in. We cut, sew and finish our custom curtains and Roman blinds in the workroom attached to our Nedlands showroom — complete control over quality and detail, faster turnaround, and craftsmanship you can watch while you visit. It also lets us offer complex traditional styles that need specialised skills.
Annie doesn’t simply take an order. She is herself a curtain maker and consults personally with every client — in the showroom or your home — on your windows, the light, your privacy and lifestyle, and the character of your home. Her guidance on fabric, style, heading, lining and suitability is what turns a good result into a beautiful, lasting one. It’s why Perth’s interior designers bring their clients to her. Annie is a Member of the Design Institute of Australia, Australia’s peak body for design professionals.
Made to measure is only half the story — what it’s made of matters just as much. We make proper, sewn Roman blinds and curtains from quality curtain fabrics — not simplified versions using roller-blind materials — for superior drape, appearance and durability. We also hold rare expertise in decorative styles such as London Blinds, Austrian Blinds and Festoon Blinds.
Because we make rather than resell, we aren’t locked to one supplier’s range. Our curtain fabrics library draws on trusted names like Warwick, Nettex and Charles Parsons alongside designer collections through Australia’s leading distributors — so Annie recommends the right fabric for your home, not just the brand on the shelf.
Annie’s English training and decades of experience give her a deep feel for window treatments sympathetic to the proportions and detailing of Perth’s heritage homes. We regularly work in Dalkeith, Peppermint Grove, Subiaco and Mount Lawley, and on special heritage projects — see Heritage Curtains.
We take time to understand what’s right for your home, not what’s easiest or most expensive to sell. That approach has earned long-term client relationships and the trust of Perth’s design community. Every job, large or small, receives the same care – Hay Interiors is a Registered Design Entity member of the Design Institute of Australia.
The best way to begin is to visit our showroom in Nedlands. You can explore hundreds of fabric samples, see finished examples, and often watch work happening in the attached workroom. Annie or a member of the team is always happy to talk through possibilities and answer questions.
Alternatively, we can arrange an in-home consultation at a time that suits you. This has the advantage of enabling us to consider your actual windows and provide advice on the best window dressings for your space.
Either way, you will receive honest, expert guidance focused entirely on what is right for your windows and your home.
We look forward to helping you create window furnishings you will love for many years to come.
No — our curtains and Roman blinds are made in our own Nedlands workroom. Roller blinds, shutters and upholstery are sourced from trusted specialists, with our expertise in selection, coordination and installation.
Annie trained in traditional curtain making in England and is experienced with period windows and the decorative styles — London, Austrian, Festoon, Swags & Tails — that suit Federation, Victorian and Edwardian homes.
Because they deal directly with the maker — Annie both consults and oversees the making — and because we offer rare traditional styles, genuine acoustic expertise and flexible trade arrangements that most curtain shops can’t match.
It depends on fabric, size, lining and heading style, which is why we don’t publish a price list — but custom made doesn’t automatically mean expensive. Annie’s consultation is free, the quote is without obligation, and her advice includes where to spend and where to save.
