Hay Interiors is a long-established Perth curtain maker based in Nedlands. We’ve been making custom made curtains for Perth homes since 1969, and East Fremantle — its Federation and character homes on quiet streets sloping to the river, and the lively George Street strip running through the middle — is a suburb whose windows reward proper making. Curtains and Roman blinds are made by hand in our workroom; roller blinds, cellular blinds and shutters are made or imported to our exact specification by trusted specialists. The person who advises you is the person who oversees the making.

Our showroom and workroom sit together on Stirling Highway in Nedlands — a straightforward drive from East Fremantle along the river. Visit the showroom and workroom to handle full-width curtain fabrics in person, take samples home to test in your own rooms and your own light, and meet the people who will actually make your curtains. Day to day though, the service comes to you: Annie consults at your windows, everything is made or specified through our own workroom, and after installation any adjustment goes straight back to the maker rather than a reseller’s service queue.

The streets nearest the Swan get the best of East Fremantle’s light — and the most demanding west-facing afternoon sun. River-facing rooms need fabrics with genuine UV stability so colours hold, and glare management that doesn’t sacrifice the outlook: sunscreen roller blinds are the clean answer for living areas, with double roller blinds adding blockout on the same bracket for bedrooms. For the shaded character rooms on the street side, softer, more open weaves make the most of gentle eastern light. Annie assesses each room’s real light at the in-home consultation and specifies from a brand-agnostic library — Warwick, Nettex, Charles Parsons and more — so the fabric follows the room, not a supplier’s catalogue.
